The Evaluation

Developing from your evaluations as AS last year, at A2 each of the set questions will be completed using a different method and none of them will be answered using PowerPoint or Word. Instead you will be using video responses, audience interviews, Prezi presentations utilising a multi-media approach.

The four questions that must be addressed in the evaluation are:
  1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Excellent voice-over commentary for Question 1 Conventions

Interesting use of an alternative presentation program, PowToon to present Question 3 - Combining film and ancillaries

Excellent video recording montage for Question 4 Technologies

The Evaluation is marked out of 20.
Progressing your Media Production skills from AS coursework into the A2 Portfolio, you will need to approach the Evaluation from a practical stance. For each question above, you must use a different manner of responding to it. Here are some suggestions, but I encourage you to think of others for yourself:
  1. A video blog of yourself responding to a question as a 'talking head' - self-interview or using another group member to ask you questions.
  2. A video response including screen-shots or extracts of your own production (Music video, Digipak and Website)  with a voice-over or written inserts/subtitles if you don't like the sound of your own voice! You could include extracts from existing music videos/screenshots from existing websites/digipaks if you are using this idea for Question 1.
  3. A Prezi presentation - include videos and pictures to enhance the multi-media style.
  4. Audience feedback interviews - similar to what you did for your research posts, but include your own input to state what you have learned from this audience feedback. I would encourage you to post your film/website to YouTube and/or Facebook and request feedback in comments for you to 'harvest' a wider range of responses.
  5. A straight-forward blog post, but with screen shots and video extracts and hyperlinks to enhance multi-media approach. If including responses from audience, include photos of individuals - but please get permission first!! Take screenshots of Facebook/YouTube page with comments.
  6. A Wordle cloud where you insert all of your audience comments and then comment on the resulting word cloud to explain what this shows. (Click here to see a student example of this)
  7. Another audience feedback suggestion using an online comic strip creator. Again, ensure you comment on the feedback.
  8. A 9-frame grid collecting together stills from existing music videos for your Question 1 response with analysis. Example here.
